CHLAMYDIA

Chlamydia is a bacterial infection that affects millions of men and women. It is difficult to detect the disease since it is asymptomatic, if symptoms show up it occurs 1 -3 weeks after exposure.
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
1. women - irregular menstrual bleeding, pain when urinating, lower abdominal pain
2. men - discharge from the penis, pain when urinating
TREATMENT
- Antibiotics
COMPLICATION
- pelvic inflammatory disease - lead to sterility

GONORRHEA

Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease caused by a bacterium NEISSERIA GONORRHEAE. This bacteria thrives in warm, moist areas of the human body such as the cervix, uterus and urethra of women as well as the mouth, eyes and anus.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
In Men
- asymptomatic, but some can experience burning sensation while urinating, white, yellow or greenish discharge from the penis

In Women
- burning sensation when urinating, increased vaginal discharge, vaginal bleeding
menstrual periods

DIAGNOSTIC EXAM
- urinalysis, microscopic analysis of sample obtained from the infected body part

MEDICATION
- Antibiotics

COMPLICATION
- Pelvic Inflammatory Disease
- Epididymitis

SYPHILIS

Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum spirochete. It is transmitted mostly by sexual contact. Pregnant mothers with syphilis can also transmit it to their babies.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
1. Primary Stage - appearance of sore 3 weeks after transmission
2. Secondary Stage - reddish to brownish rashes on the palms and soles of the feet, swollen lymph nodes, headache, muscle aches, fatigue, hair loss, fever
3. Late signs - paralysis, multi organ damage that may result to death

DIAGNOSTIC TEST
- blood tesr, microscopic examination of the sore

MEDICATION
Antibiotic - penicillin
** Avoid sexual contact until sores are healed.

HOW TO DO YOUR BREAST SELF EXAM

Breast exam is recommended for every woman. Breast exam is done few days after the period when the breast are not swollen or tender. This exam is a simple technique to learn what is normal and how to recognize any changes in the breast. Following are some steps to do BSE

1. Stand in front of the mirror - put your hands on the waist, raise your arms, bend forward
- while in these positions , look for changes in the shape, color, texture, discharge from the nipples

2. Lying down - put a pillow under your left shoulder, use the 3 middle fingers of your right hand to examine the the left breast. Move the fingers in the in small size circles. Extend your circles to the nodes on the armpit. Do the same on the other breast.

If you discover lumps, thickening, or a discharge from the nipple consult your doctor for a proper diagnosis

HOW TO MANAGE STRESS

Our very hectic schedule and living in rat race life brings a lot of stress. With these, stress sometimes affect our emotions and feelings that makes us hot tempered. The question now is how to manage stress. The following are just some suggestions on how to manage stress.

1. Relaxation technique - when doing some relaxation you should be away from distractions
an example of this is meditation.
- another form of relaxation is to have a lukewarm shower then lie on your
bed and listen to some classical music while having some deep breathing
2. Submit for a therapy - acupuncture is not only known in Asia but gain its popularity in the whole
world. The purpose of this therapy is to unblock and balance the flow of
chi to regain one's health
3. Massage - go for a massage in some massage parlors
4. Yoga - consist of movements, postures and breathing techniques

HOW TO PASS THE NCLEX EXAM

Nclex examination is a required examination for a nurse to be registered in the US, enabling foreign nurses to work there. However, registration and review fee is quite expensive. With these reasons one must give full attention in reviewing for the exam. The question now is how to pass the nclex exam. With my experience as a reviewee and now as a reviewer i recommend the following:

1. enroll in a review program ( La Union Review CEnter)
2. attend the review class and computer review religiously
3.make a study plan in your home - good time management
4. be resourceful - aside from the review program, use the internet to research for unfamiliar words
5. make a lot of practice exams
6. lastly and the most important.. PRAY.. PRAY.. PRAY

Todays generation , ideal weight or the so called appropriate weight is difficult to maintain. Nowadays they are using the sex and age in relation to height and weight to compute the person's body weight. The BMI or body mass index is widely used. It is computed by dividing your body weight in kilograms to that of the height in metres squared. Normal BMI -18.5-23, obese if BMI 30 or higher.

My Walk..

It's weekend here in the Philiipines. That means i am not going to the office which also means am not going to take my daily walk. As much as i want to just lie down and sleep more my biological clock does not permit me. Automatically I woke up at 6 am. I am a little bit guilty for not not doing my daily walk so i ask our household companion to accompany me to the local wet market to buy some vegetables and fresh fish. By this i can walk a lot around the market by choosing on those different types of vegetables. Now i already receiving the benefits of daily walk, aside from losing weight, i dont feel tired easily when going upstairs. And of course am saving my suppose to be fare for my ride!!!

ADVICE FOR NEW NURSES

Being new to the profession is quite difficult. Now that nurses from the Philippines are in demand abroad new nurses does not know on what to do. As a reviewer i also acted as a life coach to this new nurses. My advice is that after passing the local board exam continue to the foreign nursing exams, sacrifice a bit for it will cost you a lot of your earned money. After passing all of this exams, apply to a respected company with a job order for this job ( check POEA online). Since EB3 visa is slowly moving you now apply for a local job while waiting for your job placement in the US but since hospitals in the Philippines only accept nurse volunteers first, try to apply for nursing jobs in the Middle East. If you want the Middle East, don't apply to some agencies, they will just ask you for a placement fee. Go directly and submit your resume at the POEA main office in Manila.

If your a newly graduate from high school you are still having difficulty with which course your going to take. With the economic problem, a course that may become a money making job should be considered. As i am searching in the net, the healthcare sector is listed as a hot job. Courses related to computers is a good choice also which may enable you to work abroad. Avoid courses that are can not be applied easily locally and abroad.
