Breast exam is recommended for every woman. Breast exam is done few days after the period when the breast are not swollen or tender. This exam is a simple technique to learn what is normal and how to recognize any changes in the breast. Following are some steps to do BSE
1. Stand in front of the mirror - put your hands on the waist, raise your arms, bend forward
- while in these positions , look for changes in the shape, color, texture, discharge from the nipples
2. Lying down - put a pillow under your left shoulder, use the 3 middle fingers of your right hand to examine the the left breast. Move the fingers in the in small size circles. Extend your circles to the nodes on the armpit. Do the same on the other breast.
If you discover lumps, thickening, or a discharge from the nipple consult your doctor for a proper diagnosis
